A fire safety inspection provides the answer.
During this process, a certified fire safety specialist assesses whether a building or facility meets all fire safety regulations and identifies any deficiencies that could increase fire risk or hinder rescue operations.
In addition, the inspection evaluates the readiness of building personnel to respond and evacuate in case of an emergency.
The results are documented in an official inspection report, which is submitted to both the building owner and the Estonian Rescue Board (Päästeamet).
The report also includes deadlines for eliminating identified deficiencies — if the issues are resolved before submission, they will not appear in the final report.
What Does a Fire Safety Inspection Include?
During the inspection, the fire safety specialist performs the following steps:
- Assesses the building and its activities for compliance with national fire safety regulations.
- Checks the presence, condition, and maintenance of all required fire protection systems and equipment.
- Reviews the accuracy and completeness of the building’s fire safety documentation.
- Verifies that the building’s use and operations correspond to its officially designated purpose.
- Evaluates the overall fire safety level of the building and the preparedness of staff to act and evacuate correctly in an emergency.
